Instagram will let people hide comments with words or phrases they think are inappropriate.

The new filtering tool will be switched on for all Instagram accounts on Monday, according to an Instagram spokesperson.

Instagram first made the feature available to businesses and celebrities like Taylor Swift earlier this summer.

"To empower each individual, we need to promote a culture where everyone feels safe to be themselves without criticism or harassment," Systrom said on the Instagram blog. "It's not only my personal wish to do this, I believe it's also our responsibility as a company. So, today, we're taking the next step to ensure Instagram remains a positive place to express yourself."

While Instagram hasn't received as much attention for hate speech on its platform as Twitter, the Facebook-owned app has seen its share of high-profile snafus. Justin Bieber, for example, recently deleted his Instagram account after commentors attacked the singer's girlfriend, Sofia Richie.

By letting people filter out words or phrases they deem inappropriate, Instagram is trying to make its network feel "positive and safe," according to Systrom.

Here's what the new comment filtering feature looks like in the Instagram app's settings:
