  • The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City is the only four-star boutique hotel in town and is popular with business travelers and outdoor adventurers who still want to take advantage of city offerings.
  • Housed within a vintage downtown bank building, the hotel is walking distance to the convention center, sports arena, and arts and concert venues. It's also less than an hour's drive from ski resorts.
  • I stayed in an entry-level Deluxe King Room, which starts at $179 per night, and found it to be a comfortable stay after a long day of skiing.

In the meantime, we encourage all travelers to stay safe, follow guidelines from the CDC website, and take precautions.

Bright, fun, and pet-friendly — with a prime location smack in the middle of downtown — the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City is a handy outpost for both business and leisure travelers who want to stay somewhere central.

Housed in the completely reimagined 1920s-era Continental Bank building, the hotel wisely retained some of the vintage 1920s bank details (teller windows, travertine marble) which guests can now admire in the Bambara restaurant and The Vault bar.

In true Kimpton fashion, this hotel packs a stylistic wallop, with robust color clashes and dramatic flair to spare. This place has a big, bold personality from the eye-popping, technicolor lobby to the velvet stage curtain theatricality of the guest rooms.

Public transportation also makes it easy to stay here without a car. The TRAX light rail system runs directly past the hotel and connects with both the airport and the ski shuttle bus.

I stayed in a King Deluxe room, comped for review purposes, as part of a ski trip, though it starts at the reasonable price of $179 per night. Although the hotel stands in the heart of the city, it's also less than an hour away from 10 different ski areas, so if you don't need a ski-in/ski-out resort location, or are visiting during a non-winter season and seeking city pursuits, this is a versatile option. I'd gladly return, should I find myself back in SLC, though, there are a few things you should note.

Keep reading to see why I was so impressed by the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City.
