Dunkin' and Krispy Kreme are two of the most famous doughnut chains.
I compared two of their most popular doughnuts and their iced coffee to see which was the better breakfast.
Krispy Kreme's doughnuts tasted more homemade, but the Dunkin' meal was better value.

On a sweltering day in New York City, I ventured to the closest Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' I could find.

Once I got back to my apartment, I assessed my two breakfasts.

As well as iced coffee, I ordered two classic doughnuts from each chain.

I started with Dunkin'. My breakfast came to $7.04.

I also ordered a jelly doughnut and a Boston Kreme doughnut.

The Boston Kreme doughnut came with a thick coating of chocolate icing.

It took a few bites to reach the custard-filled center.

The jelly doughnut from Dunkin' came with powdered sugar on the outside.

The jelly inside was tart and perfectly complemented the sweet powdered sugar doughnut.

Next, I tried the same items from Krispy Kreme. My breakfast came to $7.44.

The doughnuts were smaller than the Dunkin' varieties but looked more homemade.

I liked the choice of a Kreme filling over a custard.

The choice of glaze over powdered sugar didn't really matter to me - I was much more interested in the jelly inside.
