  • Glowy skin is always in style, but Illuminating primers are often too glittery and most facial oils don't play well with makeup.
  • Glossier Futuredew ($24) is a serum-oil-primer mashup that gives a lasting dewy, glassy effect.
  • In my experience, foundation and concealer blend beautifully on top of it, but you might not want to use any when you see how nice your skin looks.
  • Oily skin types may want to steer clear since Futuredew may give you too much shine, but dry and combination skin types should really benefit from it.

You know that moment after you apply your layers of skincare and your face just glows? I often use illuminating primers in an effort to keep my face looking that fresh and dewy throughout the day, but nothing I've tried has been able to mimic the effect to my satisfaction. Nothing until Glossier's Futuredew entered my life, that is.

This isn't like your typical primer. Futuredew is described as an oil-serum hybrid and features a slight pink tint that disappears into your skin as you blend the liquid, leaving behind pure shine, no glitter. The glassy finish is a result of jojoba, grape seed, evening primrose, and rosehip oil, plus light-reflecting minerals. Other hero ingredients include brightening evodia rutaecarpa extract, which has anti-inflammatory properties, and sugarcane squalane, which keeps moisture locked in all day long.

I'm not super breakout-prone, but I haven't noticed any adverse effects after using Futuredew most days for several weeks. In fact, my skin feels softer and looks brighter overall.

Layering Futuredew with makeup and other skincare

Naturally, Futuredew plays well with other Glossier products, which happen to be my go-to. But I've found that pretty much all the concealers and foundations I use tend to blend more smoothly on top of the formula because of the emollient texture, and there's never any annoying pilling. I've used it underneath lightweight foundation and on its own with just a bit of concealer on top and, in both cases, Futuredew made me look radiant from the moment I applied my makeup until I washed it off at night.

Glossier notes that Futuredew should be the very last step in your skincare routine (or the first step in your makeup application). It should go on after any serums or SPF. If I'm wearing it during the day I like to give my sunscreen some time to sink in (about ten or fifteen minutes) before layering Futuredew on top.

How I get the most from each bottle of Futuredew

The packaging is another detail that makes Glossier's latest stand out; it comes in a pump bottle, so there's no wasted product. Though the brand recommends two pumps to cover the entire face, I typically do one and focus it on the high points of my face like cheekbones and the center of my forehead. While I never go heavy on setting powder, I usually apply a tiny bit down the T-zone, focusing on my nose and chin, to take the shine down a notch in those areas.

The bottom line

Glossier's Futuredew is the primer/face oil mashup I didn't know I needed. It's extremely illuminating without being glittery, and has a comfortable, lightweight feel on the skin, despite the liquid being quite thick. Those with oily complexions might want to steer clear because this will add major shine. But if your skin is dry, combination, or pretty even all around, Futuredew is definitely worth a try.
