Infrastructure sector full of challenges though 85% stalled projects put on track: Arun Jaitley

Fifth strong pillar of the union budget infrastructure ssector has performed quite well. Yet it is not devoid of challenges, said Arun Jaitley.In the road more than 17,000 projects are languishing due to negligence. There were 8300 km of roads under construction with allocation of Rs. 1 lakh crores.
"85% of the stalled projects have been put back on track," he said
Total investment on road sector would be Rs. 97000 crores in 2016-17 and capital expenditure on roads and railways would be Rs. 2,18000 crores in 2016.
"We expect to approve 10,000 km more in 2016-17," said Arun.

50,000 km of roads would also be taken up as national highway, the cost of which stands at Rs,221246 crores.

The government also would set up a central dispute redressal body for smooth implementaion of central and state initiated projects and both central and state funded projects.
