An idea that was born in a class of Massachusetts Institute of Technology has now become a data analytics firm. We are talking about Infinite Analytics, the Mumbai and Boston-based firm, here. And guess who is giving wings to the idea now? Ratan Tata.

The company, which is now looking forward to expand its predictive analytics technology to segments beyond retail and eCommerce, needed funds. This is when Ratan Tata came to their rescue. The company’s CTO Purushotham Botla thanked the business tycoon for this help. He said, "We are honored to have Mr. Tata as an investor and advisor. We look forward to working with him to uncover promising areas where we can deploy our analytics product."

Some of the leading names associated with Infinite Analytics are Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web and Deb Roy, Chief Media Scientist at Twitter. Ever since its inception in 2012, the analytics company has received funds from various investors across the globe. The list includes Sixth Sense Venture’s Nikhil Vora and investors from Silicon Valley. In addition, some major investors from Australia, Taiwan, India, UK and the US also provided financial assistance to the firm.

So far the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons has invested in 12 startups, including Infinite Analytics, Xiaomi, Snapdeal and Ampere.
Infinite Analytics has its technology development centre in Boston and a sales team in India. Among its customers are AirBnB, Comcast, Croma Retail, eBay, Future Group and Tata Marketplace.
