The good, the bad and the best of Aishwarya’s 14 years at Cannes

2015

: This year, Aishwarya attended a panel discussion wearing a Sabyasachi designed floral jumpsuit with bold red lipstick. Later, in the day she has also posed for photos with fellow panellist Salma Hayek. She made her appearance on the 5^th day of Cannes this time, and was seen wearing her favourite designer Elie Saab’s teal sleeveless beaded dress with sheer panels.

2003

This time, a confident Aishwarya wore a neon green Neeta Lula saree. Her hair was tied in a bun. That wasn’t enough ingredients for a fashion disaster. At least the leading lady in ‘Kuch na Kaho’ (2003) believed so. The next day she wore shimmering pink dress. Well, this time she wore diamonds and kept her hair unkempt.

2013

The comparison to 2002’s Aishwarya and 2013’s Bachchan Bahu results in a wide ranging gap. At the première of Behind the Candelabra, she donned a one-shoulder teal Gucci Premiere gown. All jaws dropped when she walked the red carpet in a black and grey Elie Saab couture gown. And then at the premiere of Blood Ties, she didn’t let the fashion police find any flaws as she sashayed the red carpet in a heavily embroidered Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla floor-length anarkali.

2004

Three times in a row, the first Indian to walk the red carpet at Cannes, Aishwarya’s fashion disaster had hardly any impact on her. With chopard jewellery, Aishwarya wore bold and revealing Neeta Lulla gown and drew criticism from all corners of the world for her poor dressing sense.

2010

Having tried most of the renowned designers, Aishwarya thought of sticking to Elie Saab. This year, she wowed everyone with a gorgeous variety of looks. A violet mermaid gown with a train and sheer shoulders looked gorgeous on her. Though she was promoting ‘Raavan’ at Cannes, the world already knows her for ‘Pink Panther’. She also wore an Armani Prive gown with red lipstick. However, the headturner was a saree by Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

2012

This was her first international appearance post pregnancy. She was seen wearing a maxidress by Angelo Katsapis then, but at the same time she was being criticized for her plus-size curved. The fashion disaster – a cream chikankari saree was designed by Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla in which she looked voluptuous.

2002

In March 2002, Aishwarya had officially broken up with her long-term boyfriend Salman Khan! As per media reports, she was depressed with Salman calling him and hurling abuses or walking up to the shooting floors of the actress. But, fortune had smiled on her. The ‘Devdas’ debuted at the Cannes. Wearing a golden Neeta Lulla saree with heavy gold jewellery, Aishwarya drew both negative and positive feedback for her style sense from various quarters.

2014

This time, Aishwarya attended the premiere of Two Days, One Night wearing a gold Roberto Cavalli off-shoulder dress. With her hair let loose and a dash of red on her luscious lips, the former Miss Universe looked like an ultimate diva.

2008

This year, she had two back to back hits--Jodhaa Akbar and Sarkar Raj—to her credit. And then she became a household name for Cannes; all thanks to her flirty figure and divine smile. Now teamed with a black gown at the red carpet, the sensuous mercury hit a new height. However, she looked her best in the bold fuschia gown, which invited laudatory remarks for the B town diva.

2009

She looked her best in 2009. That’s what the critics believe. A floor sweeping white gown by Roberto Cavalli has given Aishwarya a unique glamour quotient. The stunner was in waiting. This time, it was a grey one-shoulder gown by Elie Saab.

2006

As years passed, Aishwarya’s dressing sense has matured as well. A blue strapless gown gave her the global look and a snake like neck piece became a buzz across the fashion ambits of the world.

2005

Having become a joke for her fashion sense at Cannes, Aishwarya was extra cautious. She moved over Neeta Lulla, her signature designer for 3 years in a row, and sported a Giorgio Armani dress. The flirting tone in the prints of the dress made her the talk of the town. The black Gucci gown with a plunging neckline was the next best fashion wonder in the French film festival.

2011

It was time for her to silence all fashion police. She sauntered the red carpet in a one shoulder embroidered gown by Elie Saab. The next day she wowed everyone with a crisp white and navy blue Armani Prive gown.
