Earning accolades for being a woman who had made history, she again adopted a three-month-old baby girl, Alisah, back in 2010. This time, too, she had to face a legal battle because the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act (1956) forbade the adoption of a child if the adopter already had a biological or adopted child of the same sex. Sushmita, however, challenged this Act in the court and finally, Bombay High Court allowed her to adopt Alisah.
