India’s IIT Delhi now ranks in top 500 world university rankings

- India’s prestigious engineering institution Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has been featured in the top 500 list of Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2020.
- Its rank has improved from 501-600 rank to 401-500 this year.
- The institute is ranked higher for its industry income (73.9 points) and teaching (48.5 points).
- The six Indian universities that featured in the top 500 list includes Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.
It has improved its rank from 501-600 rank to 401-500 this year. This improvement is due to higher for its industry income (73.9 points) and teaching (48.5 points). The rankings are analysed on the basis of the score points for its teaching, industry income, research, international outlook and citations.
The institute has one female student corresponding to every four male students.
The institute particularly offers courses in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mathematics and Computing, Mechanical Engineering, Production and Industrial Engineering, and Textile Technology.
The six Indian universities that featured in the top 500 list includes Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.

“The Indian government has strong ambitions to boost the global standing of its top universities and attract foreign students, academics and research collaboration. It needs to back them up with high levels of investment and increasing global competition,” THE rankings editor Ellie Bothwell told TOI.
Globally, the University of Oxford, United Kingdom, California Institute of Technology, United States and University of Cambridge, UK were the top performers in the rankings.
