With the ending of rebate on excise duty, Maruti Suzuki India has increased the prices of its vehicles by up to Rs 31,600. The prices have been increased across all its models, ranging from Rs 7,850 on Omni van to Rs 31,600 on Ciaz. As per the revised prices, Wagon R has become costlier by Rs 12,500 to Rs 15,700, while Alto’s price has been increased in the range of Rs 8,500 to Rs 12,700. Maruti’s new compact model, Celerio, has become dearer by Rs 13,600 to Rs 17,200.
In the sedan segment, the price of Swift Dzire has been increased in the range of Rs 17,500 to Rs 26,650. Ciaz, which is the latest model launched by the country’s largest carmaker, has seen an increase between Rs 22,450 and Rs 31,600.
Other companies, including two-wheeler manufacturers, are also likely to increase the prices of their vehicles.
“Manufacturers have no option but to pass on the enhanced excise duty rates to customers which is going to further slowdown the pace of growth in the industry. We have raised the prices on our two-wheelers to offset the increased duty impact,” a spokesperson of Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler maker, said.
