Indians studying in the UK have doubled in the last three years

• United Kingdom witnesses a dramatic jump in the number of Indians visiting the country.
  
• The number of Indian students taking up courses in the UK has doubled over the last three years.
  
• Indians have received more number of skilled visas —56,000 — compared to other countries.
  
• Of the total visit visas, almost half (49%) of them went to Indians or Chinese.

United Kingdom witnesses a dramatic jump in Indians visitors. More so because of the number of Indian students studying in the UK, doubled over the last three years.

Nearly 22,000 Indians received study visas for the year ending June 2019, which is 15,000 more than last year.

Indians also have received more of skilled visas at 56,000 — which is higher than China. This is over half (52%) of the total visas granted globally and a 5% increase from last year. Hence, 42% more Indians visited the country.

“It shows that the UK continues to be a welcoming place for Indians to work, study and vacation. Indian fans who travelled to the UK for the Cricket World Cup in England and Wales was even greater. I look forward to working with our partners in India to ensure this impressive record continues,” said Sir Dominic Asquith, High Commissioner to India.

Over 500,000 Indians received visit visas for the year ending June 2019, according to the latest quarterly report on Migration Statistics by the UK’s Office for National Statistics. Of the total visit visas, almost half (49%) of them went to either Indians or Chinese.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently announced a new fast-track visa offer to attract more science scholars. Under this, the eligible professionals will receive a three-year UK visa.

Recently, Queen’s University, UK announced also said that it will include Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) scores to assess Indian students for admission in engineering, science and technology programmes in the country — as the “quality of education in India is good”.
