It seems that the largest biometric experiment in the world has spiked more interest than porn in India. Yes, Indian users care more about Aadhaar and UID (Unique Identification) than watching porn. At least that's what traffic numbers would suggest. According to web analytics company, Alexa, the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) website gets more traffic from India than Xvideos.com. India ranks 3rd in the porn consumption index worldwide.
Why is that a big deal? Because Xvideos is one of the most trafficked websites in the world. Alexa ranks it as the 38th most popular website on the Internet and it gets 8.6% of its traffic from India.
UIDAI is ranked number 14 amongst the top 50 websites in India, followed by Xvideos on number 15. Preceding the UIDAI website are Indiatimes on number 12 and Instagram.com on number 13. The top 3 domains on the list are owned by Google, while Facebook comes in at number 4.
If anything, the rankings show that Aadhar is on everyone's mind. Introduced almost a decade ago, Aadhar or the digital identity scheme has sparked intense public scrutiny, political debates and protests from privacy advocates in and around the world. The Supreme Court today ruled that Aadhaar will not be mandatory for bank accounts and phone subscriptions right now, prolonging its decision indefinitely.

You can see a trace here. People probably search for it on Google and head to UIDAI's website. Or perhaps they're directed there from a link shared on Facebook. That along with the government's incessant promotion of its biometrics scheme seems to have put UIDAI on everyone's minds.
