As the name suggests, the Under-gear Surveillance Through Artificial Intelligence Assisted Droid (USTAAD), which is developed at the mechanical branch of Central Railway’s Nagpur zone, is mobilized with high-definition cameras that can rotate 360 degrees on command to scrutinise under-gear parts.

In case of uncertainty, USTAAD has the capacity to zoom in and counter any error that may be missed by humans and compromise the safety of trains.

As an attempt to detect faults in trains, a spokesperson from central railways reportedly said that the robot has the ability to take still photographs and video on command of engineers that can be viewed and recorded by them at the backend. The robot may be employed across India once it’s tested to go live.

And amid increasing safety concerns, the Indian railways have taken measures to ensure safety, it recently reported to build a safety fence for people that will secure the tracks.
