The much-talked-about Indian Grand Prix (GP) is expected to make a comeback in 2016. On the sidelines of the inaugural Russian GP in Sochi, last month, Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone met race promoters to pave way for the return of the elite event. Not to forget, the race has already been ruled out for 2015.

After three successful seasons, the Indian GP was dropped from the 2014 calendar due to non-payment of tax and bureaucratic hurdles. It left F1 fans and motor sports experts to wonder whether the high-profile event will ever take place in the country.

There is no doubt that the issues surrounding this motorsports extravaganza still exists, but Formula One Management (FOM) led by Eccelestone and race promoters Jaypee Sports International (JPSI), headed by Sameer Gaur, are first trying to honour the five-year contract. Ultimately, they’ll work together to secure the future of the event in the long run.

According to a leading news agency, Eccelestone said that "We (Sameer and I) had a good meeting in Russia. I was assured that the tax and other related problems will be sorted out in due course and then we are good to go back. It is too late for 2015 now, so we are working on 2016."

On the other hand, Gaur said, "Formula 1 remains very important for us. Unfortunately, because of the circumstances we could not do the race this year but I see the situation improving soon. The important thing is that we and FOM are on the same page. 2015 looks tough as the calendar is more or less final, so we should look at 2016 as the year for the race."

If F1 enthusiasts are waiting to watch the luxury car racing sport, they need to wait and see how Eccelestone will fit in India on the ever crowded calendar.
