Research firm Gartner has said that the focus on 'Digital India' initiative and use of technology to deliver services to citizens is likely to propel the growth of government’s IT expenditure by 5%. This would make it touch $7.2 billion in 2015.

As per Gartner, the IT spending is likely to reach $6.6 billion this year.

The prediction includes spending by the government and its agencies on internal IT, hardware, software, external IT services and telecommunications.

"IT services, which include consulting, implementation, IT outsourcing and business process outsourcing, will be the largest overall IT government spending category through 2018," Gartner’s Research Director Anurag Gupta said.

The software market is predicted to grow at a rapid pace to reach $788 million in 2014 and further to $910 million in 2015.

"India has a new government in power with the underlying promise of 'less government and more governance'. The delivery of a citizen-centric and transparent government is only possible through the extensive use of technology and by leveraging digital government," Gupta said.
