Indian Government says Myanmar operation a lesson for terror groups

A day after Indian Army avenged Manipur attack by conducting a surgical strike inside Myanmar, killing 20 militants, Indian Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the operation would serve as a lesson for groups that incite terror.

On June 04, 18 Indian army soldiers were killed and 15 other injured in Manipur in a militant strike after militants attacked a convoy of 6 Dogra Regiment in the Chandel district. Two militants were also reportedly killed in a retaliatory fire then.

Notwithstanding the attack, in a cross-border operation, special forces of the Indian Army on Tuesday carried out a surgical strike inside Myanmar, killing nearly 20 insurgents of the groups believed to be responsible for the deadly ambush in Manipur.

Elite commandos of the Army went a few kilometres inside Myanmarese territory to destroy two camps of insurgents of suspected NSCN(K) and KYKL outfits.

"The military's action against insurgents with assistance from the Myanmarese government speaks volumes about India's resolve to fight terror. This is a lesson and a message to all the terror groups that India will not hesitate in going beyond its geographical borders to eliminate terrorists," Javadekar said.

However, he refused to comment when asked if India would carry out a similar strike on Pakistan-based groups plotting terror against India.
