The company will reportedly will add more small cities to its reach including Ambala, Meerut, Ujjain, Jamshedpur, Puri and Haridwar. This will bring its current footprint to a total of 93 cities with plans to increase it to over a 100 soon, according to media reports.
The move will also result in the hiring of over 5,000 more delivery agents to its team and broaden its network of restaurants by 75,000.
It may also launch breakfast services and make delivery times more flexible with midnight meals, according to media reports.
Food delivery forms a big part of the company’s business contributing over 65% of its total revenue, Inc42 reported.
Zomato has been facing increasing competition from rival Swiggy and the move seems poised to help it grow market share. However, according to a recent report in Economic Times, the company saw a significant increase amid the festive season.
Zomato, founded in 2008, expanded into at least 32 small cities earlier this year. In September, the company reportedly claimed it processed over 700,000 orders a day. It gained the status of a unicorn — startups valued at over $1 billion — earlier this year.
