Despite technological advancements and safety measures, train accidents have been a recurring issue in India. Here's a closer look at the numbers and major incidents (such as collisions, derailment, fires, level crossing and other misc. accidents) from each year.

A notable accident was when the Saharsa Patna Rajya Rani Express struck a crowd of people at the Dhamara Ghat railway station in Bihar. It resulted in 28 deaths.

The Gorakhdham Express collision in Uttar Pradesh in 2014 led to at least 20 deaths and around 150 injuries.

The Bangalore-Ernakulam Intercity Express derailment near Anekal in 2015 resulted in at least 9 deaths and over 50 injuries.
