  • The central recruiting agency postponed the personality test for civil services examination 2019 — which was scheduled between March 23 and April 3, 2020.

  • In addition, the officers and staff members will also take a one-day salary cut, which will be donated to the PM Cares Fund.
Given the current lockdown restrictions, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) said that all the interviews, examinations and recruitment that require travel shall be conducted after May 3.

Earlier, the central recruiting agency postponed the personality test for civil services examination 2019 — which was scheduled between March 23 and April 3, 2020. They have now said that the new dates for the personality test will be communicated after the lockdown lifts.

“A decision on fresh dates for the remaining Civil Services-2019 Personality Tests will be taken after May, 3, 2020, following the second phase of the lockdown,” the official announcement said.

The interview stage, which comprises 275 marks, is the final selection stage of selecting civil servants.

On the other hand, the “deferment notices have already been posted for the Combined Medical Services Examination, the Indian Economic Service and the Indian Statistical Service Examination 2020. Dates for the CAPF Exam 2020 will also be notified on the UPSC website. The National Defence Academy(NDA-I) Examination has already been postponed till further intimation,” it added.

Chairman, officers, staff members to forego salaries

Owing to the economic downturn due to the global pandemic, the recruiting body also said that the UPSC members — including the chairman — will let go 30% of their basic pay for a year, starting April.

In addition, the officers and staff members will also take a one-day salary cut, which will be donated to the PM Cares Fund.

“The Commission reviewed the harm caused to the national economy by the coronavirus pandemic. Recognizing the need to conserve financial resources at the national level, the Chairman and Members of the Union Public Service Commission have decided to voluntarily forego 30% of the basic pay received by them from the Commission for a period of one year, with effect from April, 2020,” said the announcement.
