Priti Patel, Britain’s home secretary will launch a new points-based immigration system today which will bring home “the brightest and the best” from around the globe, including India. This the country’s biggest immigration in the last 50 years. Last year, Patel brought back in the post-study work visa after Theresa May scrapped it in 2012 .
“We are ending free movement, taking back control of our borders and delivering on the people’s priorities by introducing a new UK points-based immigration system, which will bring overall migration numbers down. We will attract the brightest and the best from around the globe, boosting the economy and our communities, and unleash this country’s full potential,” said Priti Patel, Britain’s home secretary.
Scientists, engineers and academics
The new point-based system will be similar to Canada’s current immigration policies and will be effective from 1 January 2021. Now that the UK finally moved out of the European Union, this new system will treat EU and non-EU citizens equally.
