- As India reopens, here's a look at the top 10 states which have the highest death rate in the country, as of June 16.
- Gujarat has the highest death rate in the country at 6.2% — double than the global mortality rate evaluated by the World Health Organisation at 3.2%.
- Gujarat is followed by Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal both of which have an estimated death rate of 4.2%.

Several cities including Gurugram, Faridabad, Bharatpur, Vadodara, Aurangabad, and Nagpur saw a sudden increase in coronavirus infection. Whereas some parts of the country like Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet have announced an “intense lockdown” to prevent the spread. India is yet to see its peak.

Interestingly, Tamil Nadu— which is the second worst affected state — have managed to keep its death rate way below.
