As wearing face masks becomes a mandatory part of the ‘new normal’, people are coming up with unique ways to innovate it. Binesh G Paul, a 38 year- old digital photographer in Ettumanoor in Kottayam is selling customised masks with people’s faces on them.Paul says this will make it easy for other people to recognise the face behind the mask.
“In ATMs, while checking in airports, examination halls and other occasions masks often create problems. The new mask can overcome this. Like our PM Modi said we have to convert each crisis into an opportunity,” said Binesh.
People can send a selfie or take a photo with a high resolution camera. Then Paul will carry out sublimation printing and transfer the image to a particular paper. The photo will later be enlarged and superimposed on the cloth mask. It takes 20 minutes to print the photo on the face mask which costs ₹60 a piece.

People have also started wearing designer face masks to match with their outfit. For instance, the Southern Naval Command in Kochi has ordered to wear white masks with white and navy blue uniforms.
