Delhi has the most accidents, Bangalore the least – Read more about the accident-prone areas in India’s major metros

India ranks 90th in the list of countries in the world with the highest accident rate. The capital of India, Delhi, has a 20% accident rate, followed by Mumbai with around 18%, according to the ACKO Accident Index 2022 report. On the other hand, Bengaluru is the least accident-prone city in India.

Delhi has almost three times the number of cars compared to Mumbai. Despite this, the accident percentage in both the cities is almost similar.

Noida Sector 12 in Delhi, Ghatkopar West in Mumbai, Bommanahalli in Bengaluru, Madhapur in Hyderabad, Guindy Industrial Estate in Chennai and Park Circus in Kolkata have the maximum accident rates.

The data from ACKO revealed that a total of 236 accidents were caused by coconuts in six months. Also, the data revealed that 4% of accidents are caused because of animals.

Delhi
Delhi accounts for the maximum number of accidents happening in India. The carelessness of drivers and poor road construction is the major cause of accidents.
With the least accident rate, Gurugram Sector 45 is one of the developed and highly populated sectors.

Mumbai
Mumbai is the second city in the country that witnesses maximum accident cases. Ghatkopar West is the confluence of western and central line traffic and reports the maximum accidents.

Bengaluru
Bengaluru has the maximum accident rate in its 50 km stretch from Bannerghatta to Hoodi, where the infamous “Silk Board” junction lies. Bommanahalli is the most accident-prone area and Hoodi is the least accident-prone area in the city.

Hyderabad
According to the report by ACKO, the maximum number of accidents happen in the Madhapur district of Hyderabad. Madhapur in Hyderabad is known as one of the busiest corporate areas and is also known for maximum accidents in its tech hub.
Nizampet is a satellite city of Hyderabad and reports the least number of accidents.

Chennai
The maximum percentage of accidents occur in the Guindy Industrial Estate. According to the report, the main areas of accidents in Chennai have heavy traffic and are industrial. Ambattur is the second area in Chennai that faces maximum accidents. Ambattur is a part of the 'auto belt' in the city's industrial north and west regions.
