Sikkim to bring back residents stranded outside after lockdown lifted: Chief secy

Gangtok, Apr 23 () The Sikkim government wouldbring back thousands of stranded people, including studentsand patients, from outside the state once the lockdown islifted, officials said on Thursday.

The strategy to facilitate the return of the peoplewas discussed at the State Task Force meeting presided over byChief Secretary SC Gupta, they said.

The state government is aware of a large number ofstudents, patients and other Sikkimese people stranded outsidesince the state was put under lockdown amid the outbreak ofCOVID-19, Gupta said.

All those stranded people will be brought back toSikkim once the lockdown is lifted, he said.

Additional Chief Secretary, Education, GP Upadhyayashared the details of Sikkimese students who are strandedoutside the state and presented a plan for setting upquarantine facilities for lodging the students after theyreturn.

Likewise, Director General-cum-Secretary of Health PTBhutia apprised the chief secretary about the details ofpatients stranded outside and said that a Standard OperatingProcedure (SOP) has been prepared for screening and testingthe people returning to the state.

The District Collectors and officers from all fourdistricts apprised the chief secretary about logistics to beput in place for quarantining the people coming from outside.

The chief secretary stressed on the need to ensure allsafety protocols while selecting and preparing the quarantinefacilities and directed for preparation of an onlineregistration system at the earliest to facilitate the returnof the people.

Gupta said that the entry of people from Rangpo andMelli check posts will strictly be based on the online self-declaration forms filled by each individual and added thatthis step was required to identify and regulate the entry ofall incoming local people.

Sikkim has not reported any case of COVID-19 so far. KDKSOM SOM
