Section 144 extended in Bengaluru till June 21 — railway stations, bus stands, airports exempted from the order

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner and Additional District Magistrate has issued orders to extend section 144 in Bengaluru city till June 21, according to news agency ANI. The order was initially imposed by the state government on April 18.Section 144 of the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure) prohibits the gathering of more than 4 people at public places. Those who violate the rule can be booked or detained. Meanwhile, railway stations, bus stands and airports have been exempted from the order.
The state government, last week, imposed a weekend curfew in the state starting from 7 p.m., on June 18 till 5 a.m., on June 21 due to a surge of COVID-19 cases in the city. However, the state government permitted resumption of activities in a graded manner to revive the businesses.
On April 27, a statewide lockdown was imposed across Karnataka. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa imposed lockdown in 20 districts including the capital during the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Karnataka government had imposed section 144 for 12 hours on New Year’s eve too, to avoid large gatherings at parties.

The number of COVID cases have more than halved as compared to June 1 when there were 3,418 new cases and 276 fatalities.
Other cities like Noida, Lucknow, and the entire state of Rajasthan have also declared section 144 to curb the spread of COVID-19 situation.
