Satya Nadella’s sharp U-turn on CAA makes him a target of memes

• Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella had spoken out against CAA saying, “I think what is happening is sad.”
  
• However, within a few hours, Microsoft India released yet another statement by him which said that every country should protect its borders.
  
• The 52-year-old had commented on CAA right after 150 Indian origin professionals in the US had urged business leaders to speak out against the law.
  

A lot has happened on the other side of the globe while we were sleeping. First, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella becomes one of those rare business leaders who spoke out on the ongoing CAA protests in India. But before Indians could wake and start lauding him, he issued another statement in a very pacifist tone.

His former statement said, “I think what is happening is sad... It's just bad.... I would love to see a Bangladeshi immigrant who comes to India and creates the next unicorn in India or becomes the next CEO of Infosys.”

But his new statement shared by Microsoft India says that every country should protect its borders.



Nadella, Ambani and Pichai

The 52-year-old had commented on CAA after 150 Indian origin professionals in the US had urged and tagged business leaders like Sundar Pichai, Mukesh Ambani and Nadella -- to speak out against the law. The new immigration law has caused protests across the country as it discriminates against religion.

In the meanwhile, Nadella has become the target of many memes.







Silence is not golden

The Citizenship Amendment Act is the hot topic in India which has divided the country into those who support it and those who oppose it. Many students across universities like Jamia Milia and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) however have been protesting against the law.

Last week, a bunch of masked men entered JNU campus and beat up students with iron rods– many of whom were hospitalized. This incident had invoked reactions from top business leaders like Anand Mahindra.

Indian celebrities who have been keeping silent as well as speaking out against the law, are being targeted by trolls alike. The latest celebrity who went through the ordeal is Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone who visited Aishe Ghosh, the president of JNU students union. A set of active trolls started urging people to boycott her movie which released soon.
