Bhubaneswar, Apr 17 () Odisha on Friday paid richtributes to former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik on his 23drdeath anniversary in a sombre manner in view of the lockdownprompted by coronavirus pandemic. The ruling party leaders, workers and supporters paidhomage to the departed leader, after whose name the rulingBiju Janata Dal is formed, in their respective houses and manyof them posted message on the social media platforms. Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik had asked partyleaders, workers, office-bearers and well wishers not to stepout of their homes while observing the occasion. However, he had advised that the social responsibilityprogramme "Jiban Bindu" (blood donation) which has beenrunning since long by the party should continue.

The BJD supremo and son of the veteran leader in histwitter post said,Biju Babu had always been with the peopleof the state. His mantra of service towards the welfare ofpeople has been inspiring us to work for the greater good ofpeople. Biju Patnaik, one of the most popular leader in the state,had died on April 17, 1997. He served twice as the chiefminister of Odisha.

He started the Kalinga Prize, which the UNESCO has beenconferring for popularization of science. AAMSNS SNS
