Over 50% of Tripura’s Covid-19 vaccinated population has taken both the doses

The latest data show that more than half of Tripura’s Covid-19 vaccinated population have taken both the doses.
The statistics from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), indicates that the state has administered close to 5 lakh second doses. The smaller population -- of around 36 lakhs, as of 2011 census -- can also be a major factor in the faster pace of vaccine distribution in Tripura.
In terms of percentage of administering the second dose, Ladakh comes in second position with 44% and West Bengal comes third with 40%.
Covid-19 vaccination is administered in two doses with an interval in between and taking both the doses is necessary to develop full immunity against the virus.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has advised that vaccines recommended for the Covid-19 pandemic can prevent people getting seriously ill or losing their lives from the virus.
The fight against the pandemic is a comprehensive one calling for the participation of the central and state governments, NGOs, private and public hospitals, general public and other entities in the country. The central government of India has so far supplied more than 18 crore vaccination doses free of cost to all the states and union territories.
While the state governments have been directly administering the vaccination programmes inside their territories, not all states have been able to show an encouraging percentage of completing the two doses of vaccination to its populace.
