No proper treatment, no ambulance for child; 3-yr-old dies

No proper treatment, no ambulance for child; 3-yr-old dies
Jehnabad (Bihar), Apr 11 () A three-year-old childdied in Bihar's Jehanabad district allegedly due to lack ofproper treatment at a hospital here and non-availability of anambulance to take him to a Patna facility, triggering theauthorities to suspend the manager of the hospital onSaturday.

Jehanabad District Magistrate Navin Kumar also show-caused two other officials and recommended the healthdepartment to take action against two doctors and four nursesof the Sadar Hospital who were on duty at the time of theincident on Friday, officials said.

The three-year-old boy was admitted to the SadarHospital with symptoms of high fever, cough and breathingproblem, its Superintendent Dr B K Jha said adding that he wasreferred to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) forbetter treatment after administering first aid.

The Sadar Hospital allegedly did not provide the childwith any treatment, nor arranged for an ambulance to take himto the PMCH.

The boy's father Brajesh Kumar Singh, a resident ofSahopur village under Kurtha police station area of thedistrict, claimed that two-three ambulances were present atthe hospital premises but he did not get one to take his sonto the PMCH.

Later, one person provided Singh with his car to takethe child to the PMCH but he died before it could leaveJehanabad town, sources said.

Taking serious note of the incident, the DM has serveda show cause notice to the Civil Surgeon-cum-Chief MedicalOfficer of Jehanabad and the Sadar Hospital Superintendentasking them to explain within 24 hours why action will not betaken against them for the child's death.

He also suspended the Sadar Hospitals manager KunalBharti. CORR ARNN NN
