Mysore, Kanpur and Bhopal — tier 2 cities with the highest gig worker demand

Indian e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart and even payment gateways seem to be expecting a bumper sales season. All these companies are on a gig worker hiring spree, says a report by Taskmo Gig Index. Both Amazon and Flipkart have sales on the horizon – Big Savings Day Sales and Prime Day Sales but they still stand second to fintech whose gig worker demand went up by 14%. The demand for ecommerce stood at 11%.
“The market has rebounded from two years of COVID-19 setback; with that, we observed a tremendous seasonal hiring demand across the industry. Specifically, around festive sales season, plenty of direct and indirect gig job opportunities are coming from multiple e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon, which are the top recruiters in the months,” said Prashant Janadri, co-founder, Taskmo.
The jobs that are most in demand in June are last-mile delivery executive roles, pickers, packers, sorters, customer support and field sales executives.
Tier 2 and 3 cities hiring the most
Most of these jobs are in tier 2 cities. Going by growth in percentage terms, only Bangalore and Delhi made it to the list while the latter stood last in the list– much behind Mysore, Shivamogga, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bhopal and more.

“The overall hiring has declined in the tier 1 market by 12% as compared to May, the city-specific figure showcases moderate hiring activity in markets such as Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai (up 8.3%), Mumbai (up 2.5%), Hyderabad (up 2.6%),” says the report.

In tier 2 cities, hiring gained momentum by 11% in the month of June this year as compared to the previous month. Similarly, it went up by at least 14% in June in tier 3 cities.

Various marquee companies are looking to tap the talent pool in tier 2 and cities and therefore are marking their presence in smaller cities.ITC and Britannia among FMCG companies, Medbuddies, Mfine, Dunzo, Zepto, Byju, Swiggy, Zomato are some other companies who witnessed a steep demand for gig workers.
