The Versova-Bandra Sea Link or VBSL is a yet to inaugurated 17.17 kilometres eight-lane bridge in Mumbai expected to reduce traffic congestion in the financial capital of the country. The bridge is expected to cater to 60,000-70,000 vehicles per day once opened.
Along with this the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link has also been renamed as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Smruti Nhava Sheva Atal Setu.
Construction work on the project was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic which caused delays due to labour shortages and other factors. According to reports in May this year, the construction cost of VBSL has shot up by 60% from Rs 6,993 crore in 2019.
The Maharashtra chief minister had also announced last month that on the lines of the union government’s gallantry awards, his government will also set up Swatantryaveer Savarkar gallantry awards.
