MP: NSA detainee tests positive for COVID-19

Jabalpur (MP), Apr 11 () A man, who was detainedunder the National Security Actand shifted to the CentralJail here from Indore, tested positive for coronavirus onSaturday, a senior official said.

The discovery has prompted the local authorities torequest suspension of transfer of prisoners from Indore andBhopal, two of the worst virus-affected districts of MadhyaPradesh.

Deputy inspector general of police (Jails) (Jabalpurzone) Gopal Tamrakar said, "As a precautionary measure, fourNSA detainees from Indore were sent to Victoria DistrictHospital for a coronavirus test before being admitted insideNetaji Subhash Chandra Bose Central Jail."

Of the four detainees, one tested positive forcoronavirus, while three others tested negative, districtcollector Bharat Yadav said.

"We have requested the authorities in the stategovernment not to shift detainees lodged in prisons at Bhopaland Indore to the Jabalpur Central jail to prevent the spreadof the virus," Yadav said.

The request is being made, as there is a chance ofpolice personnel accompanying inmates also getting infected,worsening the situation further, he added.

The detainee, who tested positive, was shifted tothe Government Medical College and Hospital, he said, addingthat the other three inmates will be kept in an isolationfacility inside the jail premises. COR LALARU ARU
