Maha: COVID-19 cases jump to 1,982; count of dead now 149

Mumbai, Apr 12 () As many as 221 people testedcoronavirus positive in Maharashtra on Sunday, taking thestate tally of COVID-19 patients to 1,982, a state healthdepartment official said.

Twenty-two coronavirus positive patients died due tothe infection in the state on Sunday, which increased thedeath toll to 149, he said.

Mumbai reported the highest number of deaths at 16,followed by three in Pune, two in Navi Mumbai and one fromSolapur.

Out of the total number of victims, nine were women,he said.

"Of the 22 deceased, 15 were in the age group of 40 to60 years, while six were above 60 years of age," he added.

Twenty of these 22 victims had high risk co-morbidities, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma and heartailment, the official said.

As per the figures provided by the department, Mumbaicity has 1,298 positive patients now. The megapolis hasreported 92 deaths so far. Pune city has 233 COVID-19patients, while it has reported 30 deaths till now.

Thane division has 1,520 such patients and reported106 deaths so far.

Pune division has 270 positive cases and 33 deaths,followed by Nashik division recording 47 cases of COVID-19 anddeath of four patients.

Kolhapur division has 38 COVID-19 patients, of whomone died due to the infection, while Aurangabad has reported21 cases so far with the death of one patient.

In Nagpur division, so far 29 people have testedpositive, of whom one died, while Akola has recorded 35positive cases and two deaths so far.

There are 13 coronavirus patients in Latur divisionwith no death reported so far, the official said.

There are nine persons from other states, who areundergoing treatment in Maharashtra, he added.

Of the 41,109 laboratory samples, as many as 37,964tested negative, while 1,982 have tested positive, theofficial said, adding that so far, 217 in the state have beendischarged after recovery.

The state has placed 61,247 people under homequarantine and 5,064 people are in institutional quarantine.

"A thorough search of citizens, who had attended thereligious gathering at Nizamuddin in Delhi in March, isunderway at the district and municipal corporation levels," hesaid.

Around 755 of these attendees have been traced andtested and 37 have been found to be coronavirus positive. Ofthem, eight are in Latur, while seven are in Yavatmal, six inBuldhana, three in Mumbai, and two each in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Ahmednagar, and one each in Ratnagiri, NagpurMunicipal Corporation, Hingoli, Jalgaon, Osmanabad, Kolhapurand Washim, the official said.

Apart from this, six contacts of these cases havebeen found positive in Ahmednagar and one in Pimpri-Chinchwadas well, he said.

As per the guidance from the Centre, a clustercontainment action plan is being implemented in places wheregroups of patients have been found in the state.

There are total 4,846 surveillance squads deployedacross the state and 17.46 lakh people have been surveyed, hesaid. ND GKNP NP
