Maha: 14 persons booked for fleeing COVID-19 containment zone

Aurangabad May 14 () An offence was registeredagainst 14 persons for allegedly escaping from a COVID-19containment zone in Maharashtra's Aurangabad city, police saidon Thursday.

The incident came to light on Wednesday, when 16residents of Pundalik Nagar escaped from the area, which hasbeen declared a containment zone, investigating officer VishnuMunde said.

Police teams deployed in the area were alerted aboutthe escapees, including two children, and a hunt was launchedto trace them, the official said.

The escapees were finally traced to Tirthpuri villagein neighbouring Jalna district, where they will remain underquarantine for 14 days, following which further action will betaken against them, assistant police inspector GhanshyamSonawane of Pundalik Nagar police station said.

A case was registered under section 188 (disobeying anorder issued by a public servant) and other relevantprovisions of the Indian Penal Code, Disaster Management Actand Epidemic Diseases Act, he added. AWARU ARU
