Lockdown: Goa taxi trade demands Rs 12k per month compensation

Panaji, Apr 26 () Taxi associations in Goa havedemanded compensation for loss of income due to the lockdownin place for the novel coronavirus outbreak, an official saidon Sunday.

He said a representative of North and South GoaTourist Taxi Owners' Association met Chief Minister PramodSawant this week.

"As it is, the tourist season was poor. Even before wecould recover, the coronavirus outbreak hit our industry veryhard. The government should give us compensation as thetraditional taxi sector is the backbone of the state's tourismindustry," said Laxman Korgaonkar, who represented both theassociations before the chief minister.

As per the memorandum submitted to the CM, theassociations have demanded Rs 12,000 per month for each taxioperator, and temporary waiver of bank EMIs on vehicle loansas well as insurance premium payment. RPS.BNM BNM
