As on April 28, Gujarat has reported 3,548 Coronavirus cases and out of this, 162 have succumbed to the disease and 394 have recovered. To control the spread of the disease, the Gujarat government identified 27 Coronavirus hotspots in the state.

What is a Coronavirus hotspot?

Coronavirus hotspots are districts in which 6 or more people have tested positive for Coronavirus. These areas are characterized on the basis of risk factors, probability of virus spread and measures being taken.

The Gujarat government has declared specific areas in these 27 Coronavirus hotspots as containment zones.

What does a containment zone mean?

A containment zone is created around a containment cluster where multiple cases of Coronavirus have been reported. A 3-kilometer radius surrounding the cluster is identified as a containment zone.

In situations where the virus is suspected to spread easily, an additional buffer zone of 5 kilometers in urban areas and 7 kilometers in rural areas will be created.

The containment zones are completely sealed, and only medical and government personnel are allowed to come out in these areas. The movement of all vehicles is restricted, and all roads are put under police surveillance.
