Today, on October 25, 2024, Google honoured and paid tribute to the late Bollywood icon K.K. (Krishnakumar Kunnath), who made his playback singing debut on this day in 1996 with the song "Chhod Aaye Hum." His voice became a timeless presence in Bollywood, leaving a lasting impact on generations of music lovers.

Born on August 23, 1968, in Delhi, India, K.K. studied at Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. He initially worked in marketing before fully committing to his passion for music. His musical journey began in 1994 when he submitted a demo tape to prominent Indian artists, leading him to start recording jingles.

K.K. was known for his romantic hits like "Dil Ibaadat" and the emotional "Beetein Lamhe." In addition to Hindi, he recorded songs in various languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Bengali, Assamese and Gujarati, showcasing his remarkable versatility.

K.K. gained widespread recognition in 1999 with the song "Tadap Tadap" from the film “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam”. That same year, he released his debut album, ‘Pal’, which featured multiple hit songs, catapulting him to fame. Over his three-decade career, he recorded an impressive 3,500 jingles in 11 languages and sang over 500 songs in Hindi, along with more than 200 in Telugu, Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam. His contributions earned him six Filmfare Award nominations and two Star Screen Awards, among numerous other accolades.

Tragically, K.K. passed away in June 2022 at the age of 53 due to a cardiac arrest. His death occurred just hours after a performance at Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata. While initially considered 'unnatural,' an autopsy later confirmed it was due to heart failure. K.K.'s legacy lives on through his timeless music and the hearts he touched.
