Recently, a heartbreaking video of Sugandha, a nurse in the COVID-19 ward at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences in Karnataka, and her daughter Aishwarya went viral.

Sugandha, who is not infected but is in a 14-day quarantine after her service in the hospital, had not seen her daughter in a long time. Meanwhile, her daughter begged the father Santosh, to take her to see her mom.

All the three-year old wanted was a glimpse of her mom, whom she had not seen for 15 days. A helpless Santosh took his daughter on a bike to the hospital.

At the gates of a hospital, following the norm of social distancing Sugandha and Aishwarya just looked at each other and cried their hearts out.

The video, which is not for the faint hearted, seemed to even have an impact on Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. He called up the nurse in the hospital and lauded her efforts for her service to the nation during the pandemic.

"'You are struggling and working hard without meeting your daughter for so long and crying for you at home. I am moved by her plight. Please cooperate. You will have better opportunities in future. God bless you,' Yediyurappa told the nurse on the phone," an official told IANS.

The Chief Minister also appreciated her dedication to work and for putting duty above personal life.

Sugandha is not alone. She is one of the hundreds of medical workers in India, who have put their own lives at risk and have moved away from their families to serve others during the Covid-19 crisis. In Bhopal, a doctor has started living in his car in quarantine so that he doesn’t pass on the virus to his family.
