Srinagar, Jul 1 () Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded 198 fresh COVID-19 cases, raising the tally in the union territory to 7,695, while the death toll reached 105 with four more patients dying of the disease, officials said.

"Four persons, who were COVID-19 positive, have died over the past 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir," the officials said.

Three deaths were reported in Kashmir while one death was reported from the Jammu region, they added.

The fresh deaths raised the toll of coronavirus-infected persons in the union territory to 105 -- 13 in Jammu province and 92 in Kashmir division.

The union territory reported 198 new coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours, the officials said.

While 19 of these were from the Jammu region, 179 were from the Valley, they added.

There are now 2,734 active cases in the union territory, while 4,856 patients have recovered from the infection.

The cases detected on Wednesday included 25 persons who had returned to the union territory recently, the officials said.

They said Baramulla district in north Kashmir recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases -- 49 -- on Wednesday. It was followed by 32 each in Srinagar and Shopian districts.

Six districts -- Pooch, Kathua, Reasi, Kishtwar, Ramban and Bandipora -- did not have any fresh cases detected in the past 24 hours, the officials said.

With Wednesday's fresh cases, the total number of coronavirus-infected persons in Jammu and Kashmir reached 7,695.

"Of these, 6,065 are in Kashmir and 1,630 in the Jammu region," the officials said. MIJ AQS AQS
