It’s the world’s largest repatriation ⁠— these are the dates and fares for flights back to India

  • Air India Express is set to operate 64 flights from May 7 to May 13 to bring back around 15,000 stranded Indians, in the first phase of repatriation.
  • The Indian government is going to carry out the repatriation in four phases in the month of May.
  • While this may be good news for those stranded abroad, they are not coming back home for free.
  • Flying back home from the United States will cost the most at ₹100,000.

India is gearing up to deploy cargo planes, naval warships, military transport planes and commercial jets to bring back over a million Indians stranded across the world.

On May 5, the Indian government gave permission to Air India and its subsidiary Air India Express to operate 64 flights from May 7 to May 13 to bring back around 15,000 stranded Indians, in the first phase of repatriation.

In the first phase, India will operate 10 flights to the UAE, seven flights each to the US and the UK, five flights to Saudi Arabia, five flights to Singapore and two flights to Qatar to repatriate Indian nationals between May 7 and May 13, the Civil Aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on May 5.

India will also operate seven flights each to Malaysia and Bangladesh, five flights each to Kuwait and Philippines, two flights each to Oman and Bahrain, Puri said.

The Indian government is going to carry out the repatriation in four phases in the month of May. As many as 1.8 million Indian citizens are expected to return to the country.
