India’s daily COVID-19 cases surge by 7.8% in a day, active cases stand at 18,31,000

  • India records over 2,82,970 fresh COVID-19 cases and 441 deaths in the span of 24 hours.
  • The Omicron tally in India also climbed to 8,961 cases reported in 29 states, an increase of 0.79% from the day before.
  • Around 1,88,157 people have been recovered so far in the last 24 hours.

India has reported 2,82,970 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, which is 44,889 (7.8%) more than the previous day. The active caseload of the country stands at 18,31,000 cases as on Wednesday.

Around 441 people succumbed to COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the tally to 4,87,202, as per the health ministry. The death toll has reportedly increased over 70% in the last seven days compared to the week before that.

Around 1,88,157 people have recovered so far in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate also stands at 93.88%, according to the data by the Union Health Ministry.

The Omicron tally in India also climbed to 8,961 cases reported in 28 states, an increase of 0.79% since yesterday.

Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate has shot up again from 14.43% to 15.13% while the weekly positivity rate is 15.53%, as the country is witnessing a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases.

India has inoculated 76,35,229 COVID-19 vaccination doses in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to more than 158 crore doses so far.

According to the health ministry, more than 128 crore balance and unutilised COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and union territories to be administered, as of Wednesday morning.
