India’s daily COVID-19 cases see a dip of 20,000, Omicron infections continue to surge

  • India records over 2,38,018 fresh COVID-19 cases and 310 deaths in the span of 24 hours.
  • The Omicron tally in India also climbed to 8,891 cases reported in 29 states, an increase of 8.31% from the day before.
  • Around 1,51,740 people have recovered so far in the last 24 hours.

India has clocked 2,38,018 fresh COVID-19 cases, which is 20,071 (7.8%) less than the previous day. The active caseload of the country stands at 17,36,628 cases as of Tuesday.

Around 310 people succumbed to COVID-19 on Monday, taking the tally to 4,86,761, as per the health ministry. The death toll has reportedly increased over 70% in the last seven days compared to the week before that.

Around 1,57,421 people have recovered so far in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate also stands at 94.09%, according to the data by the Union Health Ministry.

The Omicron tally in India also climbed to 8,209 cases reported in 28 states, an increase of 8.31% since yesterday. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with 1,738 cases, followed by West Bengal with 1,672 and Rajasthan with 1,276 cases.

Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate has come down from 19.75% to 14.43%, while the weekly positivity rate is 14.92%, as the country is witnessing a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases.

India has inoculated 79,91,230 COVID-19 vaccination doses in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to more than 158 crore doses so far.
