Indians are buying more appliances like vacuum cleaners, microwaves this year: Flipkart

Indian households are buying more small home appliances like water purifiers, vacuum cleaners, juicer mixer and grinders and microwaves, if a Flipkart report is to be believed.The demand for these appliances have shot up by at least 25% in the January to July period this year as compared to the same period last year, Flipkart says.
“This demand is driven by a host of factors including a hectic urban lifestyle, rise in the number of nuclear families and technological enhancements which help customers accomplish daily tasks in less time. This trend is expected to further gain acceptance during the upcoming festive season and Flipkart’s Big Billion Days event,” the report said.
The report further highlights that there has been an 82% increase in the number of consumers willing to exchange their old product for a new one.
Metro cities like Bangalore and Chennai account for more than 50% of overall product exchange. Tier 3 cities like Ernakulam, Thrissur and Trivandrum registered a 4x growth, outpacing their metro counterparts.

To cater to the growing demand of home appliances, over 27 new brands and sellers also entered this segment, making their products available on Flipkart last year. People can have access to new technology based appliances like robotic vacuum cleaners, touch mixer grinders as well, the report says.
“To fulfill this evolving need of customers, we have significantly expanded our selection with a 10x growth since last year and have enabled product exchange for a wide range of appliances to enable customers to upgrade to a better variant of the product while making it an affordable purchase,” Kumar further added.
