It is alway fun to look back at the previous year and figure out what you have been upto. Payments firm Razorpay decided to do the same and analyse what India has been spending on in the last fiscal year and the results were quite amusing.

Indians ordered three times the food

India’s online food orders grew nearly three-fold compared to the previous fiscal year. The highest amount of food ordering was spent on New Year’s eve. Alcohol orders on December 31, 2021, soared to five-times their daily average.

India spent nearly seven-times the daily average on flowers on Valentine’s Day of 2022. The amount spent on florists would buy one red rose for every man, woman and child in Wellington, capital of New Zealand.

The matchmaking transactions online grew by 63 percent in the last fiscal year. The number of transactions on matrimonial services would equate to at least 125 jumbo jets full of happy couples, Razorpay reveals.

Midnight shopping were all for kids

Indians bought most baby products online between 11 pm and 12 am. The amount spent on baby products could buy 50 diapers for every child born in India this year, the report reveals. Meanwhile, grocery orders grew almost four-fold in the fiscal year 2021.

Jewellery was added to the cart too

Jewellery was a common presence in shopping carts across the country on Dhanteras (November 2), with payments worth five times the daily average. The annual spend on the jewellery and watches category would cover the cost of 100 Rolls Royce Ghosts, priced at ₹6.95 crore in India.

‘New year, new me’ resulted in higher spending on fitness

People spent 40 percent above the monthly average on fitness in January as many New Year’s Resolutions were formed, Razorpay has revealed. Payments to dieticians also reached an annual high on December 31.
