703 people succumbed to COVID-19 on Thursday, taking the tally to 4,88,396, as per the health ministry. The death toll has reportedly increased over 70% in the last seven days compared to the week before that.

The Omicron tally in India also climbed to 9,692 cases reported in 29 states, an increase of 4.36%.
Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate has shot up again from 16.41% to 17.94% while the weekly positivity rate is 16.56%, as the country is witnessing a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases.
India has inoculated 70,49,779 COVID-19 vaccination doses in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to more than 160 crore doses so far.
According to the health ministry, more than 127 crore balance and unutilised COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and union territories to be administered, as of Friday morning.
