India reports more than 3 lakh COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day, 703 deaths in last 24 hours

  • India has reported over 3,47,254 new COVID-19 cases and 703 deaths in the last 24 hours.
  • The Omicron tally in India also climbed to 9,692 cases reported in 29 states, an increase of 4.36% from the day before.
  • Around 2,51,777 people have been recovered so far in the last 24 hours.

India has clocked 3,47,254 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, which is 29,722 more than the previous day. The active caseload of the country stands at 20,18,825 cases as of Friday.

703 people succumbed to COVID-19 on Thursday, taking the tally to 4,88,396, as per the health ministry. The death toll has reportedly increased over 70% in the last seven days compared to the week before that.

Around 2,51,777 people have recovered so far in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate also stands at 93.69%, according to the data by the Union Health Ministry.

The Omicron tally in India also climbed to 9,692 cases reported in 29 states, an increase of 4.36%.

Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate has shot up again from 16.41% to 17.94% while the weekly positivity rate is 16.56%, as the country is witnessing a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases.

India has inoculated 70,49,779 COVID-19 vaccination doses in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to more than 160 crore doses so far.

According to the health ministry, more than 127 crore balance and unutilised COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and union territories to be administered, as of Friday morning.
