India reports biggest one day jump with 7,466 new coronavirus cases on May 29— tally rises to 1,65,799

• Indian recorded its biggest jump so far with 7,466 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours.
• The total count of COVID-19 infections in India jumped to 1,65,799 on Friday (May 29).
• The Health Ministry said the number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 89,987, while 71,105 people have recovered and one patient has migrated.

Indian recorded its biggest jump so far with 7,466 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours. The total count of COVID-19 infections in India jumped to 1,65,799 on Friday (May 29), according to the Health Ministry data.

The Health Ministry said the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 4,706 in the country, registering an increase of 175 deaths.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 89,987, while 71,105 people have recovered and one patient has migrated.

"Thus, around 42.89% of patients have recovered so far," a senior Health Ministry official said.

Of the 175 deaths reported since Thursday morning, 85 were in Maharashtra, 22 in Gujarat, 15 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Delhi, 12 in Tamil Nadu, eight in Madhya Pradesh, seven in Rajasthan, six in West Bengal, four in Telangana and one each in Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.

According to the ministry's website, more than 70% of the deaths are due to comorbidities.

According to the health ministry data updated in the morning, the highest number of confirmed cases in the country are from Maharashtra at 59,546 followed by Tamil Nadu at 19,372, Delhi at 16,281, Gujarat at 15,562, Rajasthan at 8,067, Madhya Pradesh at 7,453 and Uttar Pradesh at 7,170.

• Domestic returnees continue to swell Karnataka Covid-19 tally

Karnataka recorded 115 cases in the past one day, raising the state's tally to 2,533. The state recorded as many as 85 new cases that had travelled to Maharashtra and eight to Tamil Nadu.

"New cases reported from Wednesday 5 p.m. to Thursday 5 p.m. 115," said a health official. Of all the cases, 1,650 are active, 834 have been discharged while 47 persons have succumbed to the dreaded virus so far.

Of the new cases, Udupi led with (29), followed by Dakshina Kannada (24), Hassan (13), Bidar (12), Bengaluru Urban (9), Yadgir (7), Chitradurga (6), Kalaburagi (5), Haveri (4), Chikkamagaluru (3), Vijayapura (2) and Raichur (1).

Unlike before, most cases in Karnataka now are returnees from other states, mainly from Maharashtra.

• Gurugram records highest one-day spike in coronavirus cases

Gurugram on Thursday reported 68 new cases, the highest in a single, taking Gurugram's Covid-19 tally to 405, including 209 active cases.

The district has so far reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in Haryana, far ahead of Faridabad (276) and Sonipat (180), placed second and third on the list, respectively. Gurugram has reported as many as 121 cases in the last three days.

Officials said that the number of cases has swelled after restrictions on the borders connecting Delhi were lifted following an order by the Delhi High Court. Also, the relaxations granted under Lockdown 4.0 have also added to the worries of the district administration.

Keeping in view the alarming situation, Haryana Chief Secretary (Home) Keshni Anand Arora visited Gurugram and Faridabad on Thursday to take stock of the situation and ordered to monitor every zone in the two districts.

• 49 more deportees from Saudi in Telangana's rising COVID-19 cases

Coronavirus cases continued to soar in Telangana, as the state recorded 117 new cases on Friday (May 29).

The fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 67. According to the director of public health and family welfare, 49 more deportees from Saudi Arabia were among the people tested positive.

As many as 66 locals and two migrants also tested positive. The overall tally of Covid-19 cases in the state mounted to 2,256.

The authorities on Wednesday had announced that 94 deportees from Saudi Arabia had tested positive. Thursday's numbers pushed the figure to 143, making them the third biggest category after local cases and migrants.

The Centre has airlifted 458 deportees from Saudi Arabia. These deportees have been quarantined in government centres in the state, the Health Department said.

• Raj Bhavan in Bhopal declared containment zone

The Governor's House in Bhopal has been declared a containment zone after a peon and cleaner and four other family members residing on the sprawling premises tested positive for coronavirus, it was announced on Thursday.

A daily high-level review of requisite precautions will be undertaken every day in view of the infection in the Raj Bhavan, said a government statement.

Manohar Dubey, Secretary to the Governor, said there would be strict monitoring of visitors' movement and health of staff. The residence and office of Governor Lalji Tandon have been declared as an 'inner zone', and two of the three entry gates have been sealed.

There are 64 staff quarters on the sprawling premises. The employees and their family members living in quarters will not be allowed to leave the campus for three days, except for medical emergencies.

• Mumbai Covid-19 cases cross 35,000, Maharashtra records 85 new deaths

Maharashtra on Thursday reported 85 Covid-19 deaths, down by 20 over yesterday's high of 105 fatalities, while the number of cases in Mumbai shot past the 35K mark, health officials said.

It includes 49 deaths in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region alone — the worst-hit region in the country — besides 2,598 new positive cases recorded across the state today.

This comes to roughly one death every 17 minutes, and an average of 108 new cases every hour, in the state. Maharashtra has been recording 75-plus fatalities and new patients over 2K daily for the past three days consecutively, with the last highest figure of infections being 3,041 cases on May 24.

With 85 fatalities, the state death toll reached 1,982, and the total number of coronavirus patients increased from 56,948 yesterday to 59,546 today. The health department said of the total number of cases declared to date, 38,939 were 'active cases' — swelling by 1,814 over yesterday's 37,125.

The state has reported a recovery rate of 31.26% and a mortality (death) rate of 3.32%.

• Agra coronavirus tally rises to 882 — 3 deaths, 7 new cases recorded

With three more deaths reported till late Thursday evening, COVID-19 has taken 38 lives in Agra so far. The total number of the corona patients in the district is now 882, with seven new cases added till Thursday night.

District Magistrate P. N. Singh said 774 patients had recovered and were discharged from the hospitals. A total of 12,772 samples has been taken, and the city now has 38 containment zones, he said.

In the two jails located in the city, so far 1,900 inmates had been screened. In Firozabad, the recent uptrend continued with seven new cases added, bringing the district's tally to 238.
