The Indian airspace regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has extended the suspension of international commercial flights till November 30 due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Europe.“In partial modification of circular dated 26-06-2020, the competent authority has further extended the validity of circular issued on the subject cited above regarding Scheduled International commercial passenger services to/from India till 2359 hrs IST of November 30, 2020,” the DGCA said in a notification.
The restrictions won’t apply to international all-cargo operations and air-bubble agreement flights approved by the government. The aviation regulator further added that international scheduled flights might be allowed on selected routes by the ‘competent authority’ on a case-by-case basis.
It has been six months since the Indian government first grounded all international flights on March 25. Domestic flights were allowed to resume operations from May 25 with certain restrictions and precautions in place. The blanket ban on international flights was also eased.
The transport bubbles or air travel arrangements, which are an exception to the suspension, are temporary arrangements between two countries aimed at restarting commercial passenger services when regular international flights are suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
