Everybody loves Bengaluru – the city’s weather, microbreweries, the ‘chill’ vibe and of course, startups. But if there’s one thing that’s always been a problem, it’s the traffic, a pain point that begins right from the airport. A ride from the airport to the city centre can take you anywhere between one to two hours, which is why people often choose to finish telephonic meetings on the go as well.

But now, it might soon be possible to reach the city centre in 10 minutes from the airport. How? Virgin Hyperloop, a transportation technology company, which works on high-speed travel tech concepts, has signed a pact with the Bengaluru airport. “With speeds of up to 1,080 kmph, hyperloop could transport thousands of passengers per hour from BLR Airport to the city center in under 10 minutes, according to the preliminary analysis,” said the official note.

The duo will now study the feasibility of a hyperloop from the airport to the city. They have signed a first-of-its-kind Memorandum of Understanding to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed Hyperloop corridor from BLR Airport.

“Beyond just the transit of passengers, airports are crucial conduit for goods, especially time-sensitive deliveries. A hyperloop-connected airport would dramatically improve the delivery of cargo and create an ultra-efficient supply chain,” said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of Virgin Hyperloop and DP World.

However, if you are getting too excited about the high-tech transportation method, hold on for there’s still a long way to go. The pre-feasibility study will be done in two phases of six months each. The study will check on the technical, economic and route feasibility of the hyperloop.

It’s also worthy to note that India’s first supposed Hyperloop project set to be from Mumbai-Pune is still under wraps even after it made much noise over two years ago. Hyperloop has also presented a pre-feasibility study in Andhra Pradesh for a 700-km long route connecting the top cities of the state.
