How to know if you are close to a Coronavirus patient

• The government is releasing district-wise information about Coronavirus patients.
• IndiaSmile has developed a crowd-sources tool to help you find out how close you are to a Coronavirus patient.
• The tool uses your location and provides the distance of the nearest Coronavirus patient.

The Coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the way we live, in addition to restricting them to their homes. Whenever we step out for groceries and other essentials, there is always a chance of coming in contact with someone who may have Coronavirus.

To help people know if they have crossed paths with someone who has tested positive, the government of India introduced the Aarogya Setu app. However, the app does not allow you to see how close you are to a Coronavirus patient.

State governments have been releasing district-wise information about Coronavirus patients. However, it is not possible to find out if someone near your home has tested positive for the deadly disease.

That’s where IndiaSmile, a non-profit initiative by NATACO, comes in. IndiaSmile developed a tool that depends on crowdsourced data to help you determine how close you are to a Coronavirus patient. You can also contribute here. However, the data is crowdsourced and may not be accurate, and is not official .

How to know how close you are to a Coronavirus patient

• Visit the IndiaSmile website using your phone or computer.
  
• Click on ‘Allow location access’.
  
• If the website is not able to detect your location, it will ask you to manually select your location.
  
• Use the search bar to search your location and drop a pin.
  
• Now, click on ‘Calculate location from your point’.
  
• The website will then show you the distance of the nearest confirmed Coronavirus patient from you.
  
• In our case, the nearest Coronavirus patient was 3.62 km away.
  

India has crossed 21,000 Coronavirus patients and over 680 people have succumbed to the disease.
